Finn's arrival

Even though it was over a month ago now, I just HAVE to do a quick post about Finn's arrival.

The grandmothers (AKA Nana and C.C.) saw us off that morning. We were both anxious and excited. Not much sleep the night before!

At the hospital we were signed in and I was changed into my hospital gown before I knew it. Everything was feeling so surreal. I couldn't believe this day I had waited on for so long was finally here. All of our family was there in the waiting room...we had a big crew! Tiffany made it right before they took me in so I got to see her, which calmed my nerves a little. When it was time to head to the O.R. I walked in and climbed right up onto the table. Once the spinal block was administered it was no time before Dr. Tucker got started and really no time before I heard them say, "He's here!". They held him up for me to see (Wow!!!) then whisked him over to be cleaned and checked out. I couldn't see so Matt was describing him to me. "He has chicken legs like us" and "He has a lot of back hair!" were two that I remember hearing from him. Matt carried him over for me to see up close before taking him away to meet his new extended family. I was sad to see him go!

Matt playing the song that the whole floor hears when a baby is born at Candler or St. Joseph's.

Introducing....William Finley Carpenter!

When they wheeled me into recovery, Matt and Finn were there waiting on me. When they handed me that baby I knew that my life would never ever be the same. You think you know what love is, but you really don't until that moment. He was so precious to me....looking back at the pictures, he is much cuter now, but I was totally blinded!

They got us to our room (it was huge!) and everyone came and loved on Finn and I recounted my c-section experience (It was easy! I wouldn't have had it any other way). I was SOOOO swollen and thank goodness nobody gave me a mirror because I wouldn't have let anyone take any pictures. :)

We spent the next two days just getting to know each other and relishing in the joy of our new little family. Some of my favorite memories from the hospital are from the middle of the night when Matt was asleep, just looking over at Finn, watching him sleep, and realizing he is really here and he is all mine. Also, I must mention that Finn aced his hearing test with an above average score AND was a champ during his circumcision. Already an over-achiever!

When it was time to go home, I was so ready to leave the hospital but couldn't believe they were letting me take him. Did they realize how little I knew about babies??? Obviously not!

Here we go!

It took so much to get that little guy here, but if he has proved anything, it's that he is a fighter. I was explaining to a friend the other day everything that we went through, and when I got to the part about the injections I gave myself every day for 6 months I found myself telling her that it wasn't that bad. WHAT??? It sure seemed awful at the time, but as soon as I said it, I knew it was true, and that I would do it ALL over again times a hundred just to hold that sweet baby in my arms.
